The late Tadao Okamoto establishes Japan Latex Industry in Katsushika area of Tokyo in 1949 and renames his company Fuji Latex Co., Ltd. in 1961. Fuji is an archaic word meaning “having no equal” or “nonpareil”, and is an homophone of Mount Fuji of Japan. In 1969, Fuji Latex establishes a packaging facility in Hirayanagi, Tochigi, which will later become the first production facility for Fuji’s shock absorbers and rotary dampers then in 1980, Fuji Latex listed on Japan Securities Dealers Association (now JASDAQ). Tadao Okamoto founds Fuji Seiki (literally Fuji Precision Instruments) with a group of young talented engineers and debuts the world’s first compact-type shock absorbers.
In the early 2000s, Fuji Seiki merges with Fuji Latex, becomes Motion Technology Division and by 2012, its annual export reaches 1.4 billion yen.
